Abstract

The invention relates to a mast system with a column (2) that passes vertically through a tripod head (1) and is extended by adding tubes from below. The wedge rollers (4) that guide the column in the head sit in seats with inclined surfaces (5) converging downwards towards the column (2) and, urged downwards, touch both the column (2) and the inclined surface (5). As the column (2) rises the rollers guide it; when the column (2) moves down the rollers wedge and lock it. A common release ring (6) lifts all the rollers into the non-locking position. The fixed end of the lifting rope (11) is attached to a tension lever (8) urged towards locking by a spring; while the rope (11) carries the load the lever holds the release ring (6) open, and if the rope (11) breaks or goes slack the column (2) is held in the head by itself.
